Art on the Wild Side

What is ‘Art on the Wild Side’?
Art on the Wild Side is a visual and performing arts summer day camp for children ages 6-12 that focuses on music and art using performance, demonstrations and other fun activities. Children are challenged while building friendships, embracing diverse experiences and learning new skills.
 
Each day of the week children will have the opportunity to focus on different visual and performing arts activities. In addition, our camp features some of Door County’s finest visual and performing artists as facilitators. Children who want to explore their creative potential and refine their artistic skills will have the opportunity to participate in all of the following workshops. Camp Dates and Activities
Art on the Wild Side will run Monday, July 9th – Thursday, July 12 from 9:00 – 11:30 AM. A sampling of activities that will be chosen from include: Paint Me a Song, Broadway Song Birds, The Beat & Beyond, Drama in a Bag, Intention Dolls, All That Jazz, Songwriting for Kids, and much more.
 
What is the cost for the camp?
The cost is $50 per participant. This includes all four days’ worth of activities and materials needed. Additionally, scholarships are available to those who demonstrate need. Thank you to Ministry Door County Medical Center for their sponsorship of AotWS!

“Paving the Way” – Brick Fundraiser


As we look back at 20 years gone by and look forward to another 20 years, we’re excited at taking the Southern Door Commmunity Auditorium into an entirely new direction. A beautiful performing arts center that not only serves the school district but also Door County and beyond. To support these endeavors and provide the best in sound quality for our guests and visiting artists, we will soon begin “Paving the Way” with our brick fundraiser kickoff.
 
Individuals, families and businesses will have the opportunity to leave a legacy-whether it’s parents buying a brick for their graduating student, a business reaffirming their support to the community, or a family remembering a loved one-bricks will be available in multiple sizes to suit all tastes. When finished, the bricks will create a scenic gathering plaza right outside the auditorium entrance. The area will be completed with benches, auditorium signage and sculptures.

SDCA Advisory Committee


The Southern Door Community Auditorium Advisory Committee, established in 2012, is an effort to broaden programming and seek community input into the future direction of the Southern Door Community Auditorium and the performing arts in Door County. The committee is a representative body of students, staff, parents and community members which assist the administration in the development of opportunities and processes to encourage the success and strength of SDCA programming in a spirit of collaboration.
 
Some of the work the committee is tasked with includes:
 
      •  Provide counsel to the Auditorium Directors, Administration and the Board of Education concerning matters of auditorium programming, marketing, fundraising, policy, strategies..as it relates to the district’s mission.
      •  Provide a communication link between the staff, Board of Education and the community.
 
Meetings are held from 6:00 – 7:00 PM in the auditorium on the third Thursday of each month.

Fairland Bluegrass Band

Fairland Bluegrass is a five piece “Family” bluegrass band from the Green Bay, Wisconsin area. They have performed in numerous concerts and festivals throughout Wisconsin and Illinois, playing traditional bluegrass music to great reviews. Fairland Bluegrass consists of Neil Saindon (guitar and vocals), Teri Rass (bass guitar and vocals), Calyn Saindon (banjo and vocals), Hana Rass (fiddle and vocals) and Dan Rass (mandolin and vocals).

 
From the band:
We believe if people simply want to hear music, they will put in a CD. But, if they will put down hard earned cash to see a band, they should leave having been part of an experience. With The Fairland Bluegrass Band, they will experience heart felt ballads, and hard driving bluegrass standards. They will feel somehow “connected” to a family that truly enjoys making music together. They will find an escape from the day to day, and find themselves somehow transported to a mountain top somewhere in Kentucky.

 
Tickets: Reserved seating: $10-adults, $8-seniors (65 and older). All area students get in free with a paid adult.

For over ten years, Boogie & the Yo-Yo’z have entertained audiences all over Wisconsin and throughout the Midwest. Boogie has performed with national acts, such as Survivor, Blues Traveler, Cheap Trick, REO Speedwagon, Journey, and many more. With their extensive repretoire of songs, it will be a night filled with great music for all ages.
